The Abduction Story
On January 12, 1976, Hermínio Reis and his wife, Bianca Oliveira, were driving from Rio de Janeiro to Belo Horizonte in their Karmann-Ghia. Near the municipality of Matias Barbosa, they pulled over because smoke was entering the cabin.
While resting, Bianca spotted a brilliant light in the sky that quickly approached and seemingly enveloped the vehicle. The couple experienced “missing time” and later recalled being taken inside a massive spacecraft along with their entire car.

Meeting Karran
Inside the ship, they claimed to meet an extraterrestrial named Karran, whom Bianca described as a tall, remarkably handsome humanoid with high cheekbones, deep blue eyes, and shiny black hair.
The encounter famously became a point of humor and fascination in UFO circles due to how Hermínio reacted:
- The Theological Debate – As Jehovah’s Witnesses, Hermínio initially believed Karran was a demon and spent over half an hour aggressively preaching to the alien, trying to convert him to Christianity until he literally lost his voice.
- The Alien’s Response – Karran remained calm, communicated through advanced telepathy or translation systems, and explained his own advanced perspective on universal theology. The debate was so profound that Hermínio reportedly experienced a crisis of faith afterward.
The Aftermath
The case became a massive media sensation in Brazil. The couple shared their adventure on popular late-night television programs like Flávio Cavalcanti’s show.
Hermenio, a devout Jehovahs Witness (an actual pastor) was so persuaded by the aliens explanation of the universe and apparent cosmic knowledge that he left the faith and became a Yoga instructor.
Bianca spent subsequent decades speaking at global UFO conferences, maintaining that she continued to have telepathic communications with Karran throughout her life.
